Pendataan tentang kasus HIV/ AIDS yang telah dilakukan sejak tahun 1987 hingga bulan Juni tahun 2005 menunjukan bahwa kasus HIV/ AIDS berkembang dengan cepat di negeri kita ini. Sedangkan provinsi Maluku Utara hanya dengan 1 kasus HIV/AIDS, memberikannya tempat di daftar paling bawah kasus HIV/AIDS.
